Fall is almost here. Do you have your fall activities on the calendar? If you’re due for some fall fun close to Point on Scott, here are some local activities that you’ll want to add to your list around the Decatur area.
Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival
It may only last a few hours, but if you love craft beer and live music, the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival is not to be missed. Held October 19 from noon to 5 in downtown Decatur, this event gives you a tasting glass and unlimited sips from over 80 local breweries. You’ll also enjoy live music at this beer lover’s event.
Decatur Wine Tasting Festival
If you have a more refined palate, consider the Decatur Wine Tasting Festival. On November 9 from 12:30 to 4:30, head to the square downtown to sample wine and foods from several area restaurants. This is the Atlanta area’s largest outdoor wine festival, and all proceeds benefit the Decatur Arts Alliance.
Decatur Book Festival
On Labor Day weekend, Decatur hosts the Decatur Book Festival. This is the perfect even for bibliophiles of all ages. You’ll find children’s books, young adult novels, and plenty of more mature reading material on display and for sale. Many authors will host talks and signings as well, some of which require special tickets to access, so get your tickets before they are gone!
Landlocked 3
Landlocked 3 in Decatur is a fundraiser event to benefit the farmed oyster industry in the nearby Gulf of Mexico hosted at Color Wheel Studios. Even if you are not passionate about this cause, if you love oysters, alcohol, and barbecue, you’ll love this event. Over 20 oyster farms from the region will be preparing dishes for you to taste, as well as several exceptional pitmasters and bakers. You can enjoy a great meal and know that you’re helping an important cause. The event is held on Sunday, October 29 at 3:00 PM.
Hear Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan is, perhaps, one of the most famous young adult authors in the country. He will be coming to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on North Decatur Road on September 24 at 7:00 PM. Coming to the event with a Book Ticket will earn you a pre-signed copy of his latest novel. Hear the famous author in person, and walk away with a signed copy, at this hot local event.
Visit Berry Patch Farms
Though it’s not in Decatur, Berry Patch Farms is a great place to go in the fall. The drive is worthwhile for a chance to pick a pumpkin directly from the patch. Jump on a hayride, pick your pumpkin, then come back to the farm for boiled peanuts, fried pie, apple cider, and other fall treats. There’s even a playground and adorable baby farm animals to enjoy.
Fall is an exciting time to live in Decatur. Whether you stay in town for a festival or head out to the country for some pumpkins, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy during this season.
