Living in an apartment in the Lake Norman region, such as Holly Crest, means plenty of summer fun. With the lake always close by, you likely spend many days fishing, swimming, or boating. But when cooler temperatures strike, you’ll find there’s still plenty to do. Lake Norman has stunning fall foliage, and you’ll also discover many events in these months to keep you active and engaged in the community. Here are some of the top events you’ll want to put on your “to do” list this fall.
Davidson Community Players’ Third Annual Boos & Brews Short Play Festival
From October 25 through October 27, Davidson Community Players will be hosting its Halloween play festival, Boos & Brews. This festival will feature eight short plays written by people within the community, and all have a ghostly theme. Tickets are just $15, and you will be able to see some of the best local talent. Bring extra money to buy beer from D9 Brewing Company. This event takes place at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.
Visit the Amazing Maize Maze
From September through November, the Amazing Maize Maze is open every weekend. This is a giant seven-acre corn maze with over two miles of paths. It’s considered one of the largest in the region and provides plenty of challenge. If you feel it’s not challenging enough, consider visiting after dark on a Friday for Friday Night Mazes.
Carolina Renaissance Festival
Take a step back in time at the Carolina Renaissance Festival, an annual fall favorite in Lake Normal. See live jousting and 16th century entertainment on every corner, visit artisan and craft booths, and, of course, grab yourself a turkey leg. You are guaranteed a great time at this popular event and are even welcome to dress up if you feel so inclined.
Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival
Do you love dogs? If so, head to Historic Rural Hill on November 9 and 10 to experience the Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival. See the cunning, athletic work of sheepdogs as they compete for coveted titles. Then, watch agility competitions and the Carolina Dock Dogs. There will be plenty of food and drink on hand for your enjoyment, as well as shopping vendors and living history exhibits. Check out the heritage livestock to see what sheep and cattle once looked like, visit a 1760s cabin, or try your hand at launching a pumpkin or an ear of corn into the air.
Even though the summer fun may be over, life in Lake Norman is still exciting. With all of these fall events, your challenge won’t be finding something to do, but rather deciding where to spend your time. There are simply too many exciting upcoming activities to consider!
