How to Get a Complete Body Workout at Your Apartment Community’s Gym

One of the perks of living in a Tampa apartment at Varela Westshore is our beautiful two-story fitness center. With top-of-the-line equipment, this fitness center means you can get a full-body workout conveniently in your community, without any need to purchase a fitness center membership. Yet sometimes, you may need a little guidance on how to best utilize the equipment and the space available to you. Here are some tips to get your entire body in shape using the types of equipment found at our luxurious fitness center.

Target Major Muscle Groups
First, evaluate the equipment available to you and determine how you can use it to target specific muscle groups. Then, pick the group you wish to work on first and do some supersets. Supersets are combinations of two exercises that work the same basic area of the body, with minimal rest between them.

Here’s an example. Start at the multi-purpose machine and do ten triceps pulls, then switch to the butterfly press and do 10 of those, without a rest. After working your upper body in this way, move to your lower body and do the same thing.

Work Upper Body with Dumbbells
Dumbbells are excellent tools to work your arms, chest, back, and core muscles. Create a routine that utilizes just these tools to keep your upper body in great shape. Consider these moves:

  • Flat laying dumbbell press (works the pecs)
  • Dumbbell rows (works the lower lats)
  • Seated overhead dumbbell press (works the deltoids)
  • Overhead dumbbell extension (works the triceps)
  • Dumbbell curl (works biceps)
  • Dumbbell wrist curl (works the brachioradialis)

Work the Lower Body During Cardio
Cardio is an integral part of your overall exercise routine, as it helps keep your heart healthy and increases your total calorie burn. Many cardio movements also work the lower body as you use your legs to keep yourself moving on the treadmill or bike. Consider strapping on some weights to make this lower body workout just a little more challenging.

Utilize Exercise Stability Balls for a Strong Core
Your apartment gym likely has a collection of exercise stability balls. These are great tools to help with core exercises, as they protect the back while helping you engage the core muscles as you exercise. Don’t limit yourself to sit-ups, either. You can do ball marches, which require you to lift alternating feet off the floor to engage the lower abdominal, butt lifts, back extensions, and even planks using this tool.

To get a full-body workout in your apartment gym, simply use the equipment that’s available to you. Soon you’ll be sweating and enjoying intense calorie burn, all without a trip to an off-site gym. This is one of the perks of living in our luxury apartment community, so make the most out of it!
